“Well the sun’s gonna shine in my back door some day”
American traditional folk/blues song
Thought we may have made our last turns of the season, but fortune has seen fit to throw us at least one more opportunity.
We were planning to spend President’s week visiting colleges that have accepted my son’s applications. The two schools that he’s heard back from, (and been accepted to,) are places that he’s already visited. We’re not expecting to hear from any other schools until March, so we’ll be heading back to Vail, arriving on Saturday afternoon, February 19th, and skiing all day, every day thru the 25th.
I know that Deliberate1 and SkiMangoJazz will be around town: I’ve already got some good companions to cause trouble with. I imagine that Vailsnopro is probably booked solid for the week, so I may have to forgo the chance to ski with him, and have to settle for après ski activities. Any other wandering Bears who’d like to share some time making turns, telling lies, wining, dining, sipping, or supping, please feel free to join in.
Baz Jr., aka The Kid, is 17 and a pretty fair skier for a Florida kid. I’m certain that he’d enjoy the company of folks near his age. He may be able to hook up with some local friends, and hopes that some of his East Coast buddies can turn up for a few days. Worst-case scenario calls for him to take a lesson or ski with me. Life could certainly be much more unpleasant, (and will be immediately upon his return home. His lacrosse coach is not too happy that some of his players will not be attending practice during the school vacation.)
The Kid and I know our way around Vail pretty well, and we’d be happy to show some folks around, and would of course be equally glad to be given a few tips from any locals.
Any of my Colorado Bear buddies that don’t have their passes blacked out for the week and can make it out, know that I’d LOVE to see any or all of you. My number is the same as it’s been for the past few seasons if you feel like giving me a call, and we should have internet access at our digs, Park Meadows Lodge.
The Lodge provides shuttle bus service to Lionshead, so that’s where I’ll be when the lifts open.
