Need New skis, have loved the Volkl Mantra

Thread Starter

Hi,

So I am looking for some new skis as my previous 2008 Volkl Mantra's (184) got broken.

I loved this ski and would almost just buy another pair but I am wondering if anyone has any suggestion of another ski that I might like instead.

I ski a lot of off piste and fast. I love to be able to lay the skis on edge like you can the Mantras but also love to go fast. I don't want anything too huge only because I coach NG on the skis a lot as well so the Mantra was a good middle man. I am about 5'6" 140lbs (I think) female advanced skier.

Cheers!!

Blizzard Atlas-- AKA the mantra killer!!!

^^^^ What he said. Have owned several Mantras, the Atlas = Mantra done right. Plus ability to swap out bindings in a minute or two.

But to be fair, 2012 Mantra will have mild rocker, and apparently new flex pattern. So cannot speak to that. And there will be no more Atlas after this year, so now or never...

Maybe a Kastle MX (88, 98, or 108 depending on how big you wanna go).  I've heard nothing but good about them.

Respect for skiing the Mantras in 184!  I'm almost double your weight and 6'1" on the 184s.  I love 'em.  Mine are from 06/07 and have well over 150 days on 'em.  Still work great and now I'm looking for a new pair.  I suprised myself a bit by looking at a narrower wasted ski: the MX88.  I have a demo setup in a week or so.  It would be really interesting to hear other people's reaction to skiing the Kastle's MX88 after the Mantras.

What got broken on your 08 Mantras?  I am looking for a single Mantra for my husband who is a monoskier and only needs one.  Do you still have them?

Nordica Enforcer also.

If you liked the Mantra, there are several skis in that class. As said the Blizzard Atlas, the Dynastar Sultan 94, the Salomon Shogun or Geisha for a few examples. Blizzard has a new line, the Cochise or something like that, and it's narrower brother called what? that people are already raving about. But still, if you like thge Mantra, it's still a top ski. Now just saying, and not detracting from your ability, but the Mantra might be even more fun, and just as fast, in a 177mm (? exact length). Have fun, and don't be so hard on the equipment!!wink.gif (skis with a lot of metal do break/bend/delam)

I do not agree that the Atlas corrects something wrong with the Mantra. The skier simply uses a ski for what it is, and if you have liked it, you may enjoy some qualities that other skiers do not.

4FRNT's MSP has been compared to the Mantra.  Very similar specs.  Getting mine tomorrow, so I can't give you a review yet.

skiing the mantra's 184 for a few years and really loving them

wanna replace them with the new 2012 mild rockered and thinking of going 191

i would think a rockered 191 turns as easy as a 184 or is this wrong

i would like the extra lenght for a bit more float in the pow.

i don't want to buy another make or type of ski

(i can get a real good deal on a pair of new mantras 2012)
