25 years and you changed everything!

Thread Starter

A longtime ago I was the definition of a true bum, but I hurt myself in '84. So the years go by and I now find myself fit and skiing again. I tossed the old equipment years ago and I plan on doing some serious research but the season is short and I have to get off the rentals! So indulge me if you can and have fun giving me your best shot at what I need.

I skied all over the world in the '80's and my reawakening skill is still solid, I was a hardcore (pardon me) hot dogger in the day and could ski anything. No ballet anymore but more hard carving and steep, I want control, speed and still enough flex to bounce a bit. I have little knowledge and understanding of the new equipment (working on it though).

Data:

Northern Michigan, but West too

6'1" 215lbs

Skill: A rusty but once expert skier restarting after 25 years.

(I skied Parsenn top to bottom in '80 :D )

The question:

What ski should I buy? Please feel free to including length, width etc. Just some suggestions so I have a place to start at the shop.

If it were 1983 I would be looking at a 185-195 GS ski (if that helps?).

Thanks!

Looks like we have two of these threads going..

Here is my reply from the General Skiing thread.. This discussion probably belongs in here Ski Gear anyway.

Welcome to EpicSki.  I'm an old early 80s USSA Central Freedogger myself.  For Northern Michigan I'd go with an SL/short carver around 170 ish for most days, something fatter for deep snow, maybe Bohemia trips, and possibly a bump ski if you're knees are sound enough.  Even if not, something like a Movement Mowgli or hart F17, or K2 Extreme (K2=more all around ski) is fun in the corn snow even without the bumps and  still pretty good on hardpack.

Have fun!
