Racer Plate Binding Screws

Thread Starter

I just received an inquiry regarding what screws are used to mount bindings to racer plates.

Can someone provide specs? It also has me wondering if we need to continue to expand our fasteners options beyond alpine, snowboard, stainless steel insert and other screws???

TIA

What plate, what binding?

Most race skis come with the plate on them, and the binding screws come with the binding.  If you buy a Volkl and then mount it with a Marker race plate, the race plate box has screws in it.  Every plate is different, some companies every put a different plate on FIS and consumer models (like Fischer).

It really depends on the plate and binding.  Feel free to post/PM more details and I can check out my skis -- I only skis with race plates, yes even on my non race skis, because I'm a loser so it's pretty likely I have something similar to what your interested in.

The general question was whether or not alpine binding screws were used to to mount bindings to racer plates.

When you say the plates are different does that also typically mean the type of screws are also proprietary or a standard screw type?

No need to use different screws than what originally came with the binding. If spacer shims are used between the binding and the plate/or ski, then that shim should come with longer screws. For the odd abnormality, just save all the screws into a jar from bindings that get thrown out. Eventually you will be looking for some special length.

Different screw for every brand.  A Dynastar plate not take a Marker Comp binding because of the hole/screw size and location.  There are ways to alter a plate or binding to take a different screw, there fore being able to attach to a different plate, but it's really something that should only be done by a professional in a ski shop.  Just use what's in the binding box, on the plates that they are supposed to be on.

What if someone doesn't have the screws in the box? Are the 'different screws' machine screws or alpine screws?

Any pics?

Thanks
