Anyone else catch the RMPBS showing of Switchback? It's a movie about snow safety and the inherent avalanche dangers in Colorado. As a long time Patroller at Loveland I spent a lot of time working with some very wonderful people. Some of them went on to work with Knox and CAIC, and others like Bill Hotchkiss worked for Forest service and Park service. The show reminded me of the old days when back country skiing was a fairly solitary affair. While the population growth in Colorado has increased it doesn't match the increased interest in back country skiing and riding. Having been out of the NSPS for about ten years now I was wondering how the member patrols are responding to this new shift in back country travel. Is it still part of the local patrol's responsibility or have more back country specific patrols taken over some of those duties?
