In the category of Most Knowledgeable Staff our esteemed Sponsor Start Haus, of Truckee, CA, won! This is a huge tribute to their great advice, which is also evident here on EpicSki. Their Most Knowledgeable Staff include our own Moderators and Gearheads, Philpug and Trekchick, pictured here at the SIA Show.

In addition, the two guys who run the Start Haus, Jim Fowler AKA "Sierra Jim" and Jim Schaffner AKA "Start Haus" are frequent contributors of authoritative reviews and professional advice on skis and boots to EpicSki members.

No doubt in my mind about that.  Well deserved!icon14.gif

Definitely well deserved.  It has been amazing to watch the shop grow over the years.  My wife and I started going to Jim S. for boot aloignment even before the shop opened.  I'm due to go back to Start Haus for a new pair of boots this year or at the start of next seson to replace my last pair purchased from Jim.

The Start Haus team that posts on Epic is first class. Small wonder they won the award.

When it snows again in Tahoe, I hope to visit with Phil and Trish and get up-close and personal experience.

Phil, did Wicks win? Saw they were nominated.

Unfortunately Wicks did not win. I was hoping they would. These awards are the Ski Industry's version of The Oscar....it is an honor just to be nominated.

Congratulations Phil & Trish.  I didn't realize they gave out awards for knowledge of Scott boots, Spademan bindings and freestyle skis from the 70s.

Congratulations - "Well Done" is always better than "Well Said".

I made a few purchases there this year and agree that Start Haus is a notch (or two or three) above the rest.  Congrats!beercheer.gif

Congratulations!  I will placing a Starthaus sticker under the hood of my car to celebrate the honor -- few (zero) ski shops have applied for this tribute.  Fewer still have been accepted.miataunderhood.bmp

Correct on color (1996 NA).  BRP lights are problematic -- these are Moss...  Cold air intakes are for chickswink.gif.  Yeah, I am a Miata guy.

We visited Start Haus just this week on our first outing to Tahoe in 12 years and our first ski outing in two. They went above and beyond to take great care of us. People like this deserve all the business they get. My husband was fitted for boots by Phil who somehow magically knew that the Nordica Hotrod's would be perfect for him. Today was his second day out on them, and they are working out perfectly with the only modification being a punching out of the ankle on one boot which was done during the fitting. Phil also put him on a Blizzard demo ski that he is having a blast on in this east coast hard pack we are experiencing here. Between the boots and skis, my husband can now keep up with my brother, which makes them both very happy!

Trish took care of some quick maintenance issues with my skis while we waited for my husband's boots. She took care of me as soon as we walked in the door.

Definitely an award well deserved! My only regret is not buying my boots from them, also!
