The most beautiful skis at the SIA Show were on the wall at Ski Logik. Artful wood veneer inlaid designs with abalone shell accents make the skis worthy of displaying as fine art on a living room wall, yet they also scored better in performance than every ski in the Freeskier 2011 Ski Test in the All-mountain, Big Mountain, and Powder categories. SkiLogik is also a "green" company: 95% of the wood used is sustainably harvested and for every pair of skis they sell they make a donation to the Nature Conservancy to plant a tree in a reclaimed ecological preserve. Athletes assist in the design and testing of all the skis.
Today his factory is producing 10 pairs of skis a day. His crew is committed to producing the highest quality skis. "There's no limit on the labor for each pair," said David. Same for the materials they use: the graphite for the bases and the steel for the edges come from Germany. The sidewalls are black locust, an extremely hard wood that is waterproof and rot--resistant. The skis are constructed with a hardwood core sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass and carbon fiber. Between the steel edges and the carbon layer is a strip of vulcanized rubber to increase the strength of the bonds. The topsheets are wood veneer inlay with abalone shell accents topped with an extremely hard coating to assure the skis will look great after many seasons of use.
In the models that have more than one length, the waist stays the same but the tip and tail dimensions are adjusted so that all lengths have the same turn radius. The 2012 line has two "Race Room" models: Occam's Razor with a 76mm waist is their slalom-type ski and Front Burner with an 84mm waist is their GS-type ski. Their backcountry/randonee ski is the Piton, which weighs a mere 2800g. For women they have the Isis (92mm waist, 15m radius) and the Goddess (101mm waist, 15m radius). The Rocker Logik line has the Rave (92mm waist, 15m radius), Ullr's Chariot (101mm waist, 15m radius), the Howitzer (110mm waist, 22m radius), and the Bomb Squad (122mm waist, 22m radius). The Rocker Rocker line has the Rock Star (117mm waist, 14m radius) and the Depth Hoar (143mm waist, 23m radius).
David chose the name Ski Logik to convey that these skis are made a more logical way, with art and soul, than the mass production model.
