Taos Area Resorts Enjoy Dump 2/1/11

Riders and skiers are enjoying fresh snows around the North Central NM/Taos area resorts. Angel Fire reports 13" fresh. Sipapu shows 17". Taos Ski Valley gained 11". It is still snowing at all three resorts and the forecast is for this storm to remain until Wednesday. We've been without fresh powder for over a month so this is needed and welcome. Conditions are excellent!

Hey, I did see that about Taos.  http://www.scoutlookweather.com/skiconditions is reporting 11" of new snow fall in the last 48 hours.  Powder surface with 47-55" at the base.  Current base temp is 18 degrees with an expected midday top tem pof 7 degrees.  Currently 25 out of the 110 trails are groomed.  Happy Skiing Everyone!!!! x

I am headed to ABQ later this month on business and was thinking of trying to get in a few days of skiing before focusing on work. Is Sandia Peak worth it or should I move onto Ski Santa Fe or maybe even Taos? What is the drive like? Any advice would be welcome.

Sandia is very flat with slow chairs.  Definitely go for Santa Fe or Taos. It's still low tide at Taos, as the local consensus is that you need a 75 inch base to get the expert terrain decently covered.  But at least 47-55 is heading in the right direction. Taos is a minefield with the 36-40 reported before the latest storm.

Thanks for the advice, especially regarding base numbers.
