I guess he took his exam at Breck.  It would have been cool to see that!

I just posted this on my breck thread, but this pic was from the day he was doing his cert.  The funny part was that I rode the lift up with the two instructors who were doing the certification.  I heard them referring to "kevin, jeff, glen, etc", and their progress. After chatting with them on the way up, they explained a bit of the process. Once I got off the lift, I popped in the vista haus for a minute and plake walked in and was just hanging out by himself. We chatted for a short while and he explained he was getting his level 1 while in town for the denver show.  It was pretty entertaining to see him with the group that was getting certified.  I have a feeling few of them had any idea who he was (that or theyre just used to him being in the area).

It was very cool of him to be engaging with a buddy and me. I had to get a photo.

What a lot of people miss about this legend is his humility and approachability.  Taking a Level I exam is a perfect example.

Working in entertainment, I regularly work with celebrities, and many are just so unapproachable.  I found this to be a pretty comical experience because it never phases me working with stars, no matter how famous, and I never bother to do photo ops with them, but I see glen plake (of whom none of my friends or family have ever even heard of) walk in and I'm like a school kid (Lloyd Christmas comes to mind)..haha.

It also says a bit about someone when they seem to be more interested in asking questions about you and your experiences than chatting about himself.

Envious.

A great experience for you.

I think I saw  Tony Stewart at the DMV getting his driver's license.

My attempt at sarcasm.  I'm sure some would find it cool to see Tony Stewart.  I wouldn't know him from a post.  Plake, on the other hand, would be cool to meet, as would Ingrid Backstrom.  I want to ski like a girl (well that girl!).

Driving like Stewart?  Not so much.

Driving like Stewart would make it tough to get many places...he can only turn left

I remember Plake showing up in our Monday night race league at Holiday Valley back in the late 80's. No announcement or anything and he ran both heats. Guess who won?

Ended up skiing some moguls with us later and partying till closing at a bar across the road, the Depot. Which was owned by a mutual friend Moose and his Wife. He's showed up in town many times over the years. Awesome skier personable guy who just likes a good story and a laugh.

Ha, sorry, didn't see the sarcasm without any emoticons.  But I'm in agreement, while  I know the name (there was a time when I was a Nascar fan) I wouldn't recognize him if I saw him in the DMV.  And I don't want to drive like him either.

Plake came to Seven Springs a few times a number of years ago now. I didn't ski with him, but know others that did. As everyone has said , all reports are that he's very approachable , down to earth, and will ski bumps or what ever at a small area down to the dirt. Just loves to ski.

I watched him ski on a very icy day our bump run (Goose Bumps). Just ripped it .  I'm not surprised by that, but it just reinforces that the guy flat out must love to ski because he was out there for hours skiing pretty crappy conditions and having fun.
