Vail or Squaw in mid April

I am planing a family trip for mid April. Which resort is likely to have better snow at that time: Vail or Squaw, and is there a real chance of any fresh powder ?

Welcome to Epic!

Always a chance of fresh powder, although it tends to get sun baked quicker than in mid-winter.  I skied Vail in April last year with some fellow Bears and conditions were good overall, but definitely variable depending on sun exposure, etc.

This year, Vail has a much better base than this time last year, so things are looking up.  There is an Epic gathering April 3-8 that includes Vail and some of the other nearby areas- http://www.epicski.com/forum/thread/95925/the-2011-epicski-gathering

Stev79,

Welcome to Epic.  We often ski at Vail Resorts in mid-April, and there is always a chance of fresh powder.  There have been times when we have received significant snow fall during this period.  You just never know what Mother Nature will bring you.  We would welcome the opportunity to assist you with your family ski trip.  Our services are complimentary to you.  Feel free to send us a private message, email or call us with your specifics and we will be happy to provide you with some options.

I've never skied Vail that late, but I've never paid much attention to the conditions there.

I have skied Tahoe every April for the last 7 years, and it's been consistently pretty good. Usually mid-month, but I've done it as late as into the beginning of May. Last year, in mid-April, I fell into a 1-1/2 foot dump at Kirkwood, what a blast! More often than not, it's just been blue-bird groomers. Squaw is fun, with the outdoor pool and hot tub at Hi Camp. Also enjoyed Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Heavenly, and Kirkwood.
