Summit County Lodging Recommendations? March 2-7

Anyone have a recommendation on lodging in the Summit County area?  Looking for something relatively economical.

I'm going to be headed out there March 2-7 and will most likely be skiing some combination of Copper, Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, or A-Basin depending on conditions, so I'd like something kind of centrally located.  Last year I was there and stayed at the Frisco Holiday Inn, but I think that's gone now.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

When I'm by myself, I usually stay at the La Quinta in Silverthorne. They've been great rooms, the location is perfect (centrally located and right off I-70), a great free breakfast, and I've stayed there at dirt cheap rates. Perhaps it's because I usually book late in the season, but I've stayed there as cheap as around $50-60/night. Your best bet might be to give the front desk a call and see what deals they can offer you. Try to get any discounts you can. i.e. Military, AAA, etc.

Are you going to be by yourself, or will you have a large group? In March, I'm renting a huge house in Dillon (across the highway from Silverthorne) for pretty cheap. For groups, houses and condos might be the way to go for you.

Going by myself, but have a friend in Denver who's gonna come up and stay with for the weekend, and my nephew from Leadville might join us part of the time.  Unfortunately we don't have the #s to rent a house I don't think.

Thanks for the tip on La Quinta.  Checking their rates right now and they do look pretty good!

JeffG,

La Quinta's rate for 2 queen beds is $111 a night.  There are a few other hotels that are offering a lower rate.  We would welcome the opportunity to assist you with your travel plans.  Our services are complimentary to you.  If you would like to contact us, feel free to send us a PM or give us a call.

There are probably better options, but are you sure the Holiday Inn is gone?  I know they were doing some remodeling, but am pretty sure they are still open even if their rates are not competitive for your dates.

I read that it's not a Holiday Inn anymore - at least while the renovations are going on.  I'd guess the chain has standards they weren't living up to?

Guess I was wrong... I just called and it is still there.  Unfortunately they're all booked up.  Still open to any other suggestions if folks have them. Thanks!!!

Lowest rates are definitely going to be away from the resorts in Frisco, Dillon or Silverthorne.  Quite a few choices at both major chains and local motels.   I have been renting condos through Twin Seasons Vacations (www.twinseasons.com) for years.  Another option is renting directly though owners at www.vrbo.com.  A condo is going to be more expensive per night, but if you are willing to cook a bit, it can actually be less expensive overall.

I've stayed at both the Super 8 and the Luxury Inn and Suites in Silverthorne for $50-60 a night

(more on weekends)

I'm actually at the Luxury Inn right now!  They have an indoor pool & hot tub and a continental breakfast

(average w/ cereal OJ bagels coffee/tea donuts). Most rooms have refrig &microwave- if not avail free on request)

Free WiFi in rooms.

Comfort Inn next door has full breakfast w/ eggs & hot food and good indoor pool/hot tub but costs more like $80-100

midweek.

Disclaimer: I'm Just a guest from back east- no connections to any Summit Co. hotels.

How's the snow Mdskier?  And were you able to ski with the cold temps?  I'm heading out to Summit County next week for a 3 week stay so leave something for me.

I didn't go on the mountain, but yesterday didn't seem as cold in town as they were predicting...today might be a different story- schools are on a two hour delay despite sunny skies.  It looks nice outside, but the amount of frost on the windows and the way my furnace fell behind during the night tells me that the current -30 F reading is legit
