At the SIA Show you can see a lot of wild-looking skis, and the new Spoon 150 Ski from DPS is one of the most eye-catching. It's a fully rockered ski with a convex base (pictured in silhouette below). The big rocker allows the ski to ride up in deep snow and makes it both nimble at initiating turns and powerful in the turn. The cleats add effective edge underfoot for riding on hard pack. "Cleat Tech" doesn't interfere with the flex pattern nor the performance of the convex base in deep snow. The ski, like all DPS skis, is a pure carbon fiber wrap construction that results in a ski that is extremely light weight yet 30% torsionally stiffer. The 4-cleat design is patent pending.
DPS plans to do a limited run of these skis for 2012 and to officially introduce the skis for 2013.
