Crouching Tiger, Choking Dog!

I'm sure he still gets the best hookers!

Tiger's like Federer now - and like all the great ones once past their "The Man!!" prime - still capable of greatness, in spurts, but can he sustain it over several rounds against increasingly stiff competition? Probably never be back.

But maybe this guy will be?

"Birdman of Alcatraz"!  wink.gif

I'm hoping this is a sign that he has returned to a level of mortality (and sobriety) that most of the rest of us share.  It would seem that he has to give up the invincibility on the course to achieve the serenity and normalcy in the other affairs (no pun intended) of everyday life.  I suspect he's putting more in to his personal life and family and less in to the party/golf/party cycles that enabled him to be so great at golf.  Good for him.  Bummer for TV golf.icon14.gif

Nah.  It was his golf / golf / golf / golf cycle that allowed him to be so great.  The party cycle came much later.

Right after his dad died.  I had a very good friend that also fell completely apart after his father died suddenly.  He was in his early 30s when it happened.  Within about 5 years he went from being an Assistant DA that had just laded a Federal Prosecutor role to becoming a homeless crack addict.

I guess that happens a lot.  Maybe not crack addict bad, but falling off after dad dies.  Tiger probably was able to party and skate by on all of those years of nothing but golf golf golf, but it's bound to catch up with you eventually.

Where he's been putting it has been and continues to be his main problem, methinks.

Like to momentarily continue hijacking this sports thread with a further digression centered around hijacking sporting events.

The Olympic Club, where the US Open was just held, is a very short distance from Fort Funston, a dog friendly beach area in south San Francisco featuring cool, WW II era bunkers built into the hillsides...

FUNSTON.jpg

Fort Funston also has beautiful, high cliffs that drop a hundred feet or more straight down to the beach below, and consistently stiff winds, ( no viagra needed! ;-), so it is also a magnet for hang gliding...

I kept wondering if some crazy hang glider would be unable to resist the temptation to buzz the golf course, maybe even land on it.

Something along the lines of this, perhaps the most infamous hijack of all...

Tiger is 1 win away from regaining the #1 world ranking. He has the most PGA tour wins (5) in the last 12 months. Like this thread  ... he's back! Looks like he's on a hot "strick".

The scary part about the way Tiger won this past weekend is it looked like the "old" Tiger with ridiculous putting, dropping bombs from everywhere.  100 putts in 4 rounds is the least he's ever had.

Good to see Rory get back on track a little with the 65 he shot on Sunday.  Maybe at some point this season we'll get a major showdown between those two.

The sports writers are saying that Tiger is technically not back until he wins a major. Oh well.

In other words, he's not back until the general public and MSM gives a rat's a55 hahaha..

He's back in the dating pool! We all knew skiing and golf go great together. Rumors of Lindsey Vonn and Woods have been confirmed by their respective Facebook posts. Tiger sent his kids to Lindsey's brother for ski lessons. I wonder how far L can hit a 9 iron and if she can leg press more than Tiger?

It won't last.  Fun for now, perhaps, but not fun for long.

Who's #1?

BTW there is no truth to the rumor that Tiger asked Lindsey:         Who's your caddy?

GROAN!

Who does not want to know what he told Rory and Arnnie though.  Supposedly both unprintable. th_dunno-1[1].gif

He is such a scumbag. LV must have some issues herself to be involved at any level.

The kid was great in the interview afterward when he was asked about it. "I respect it". Wow!

Speaking of wow: Tiger assessed a two stroke penalty for an illegal drop. The committee over rules DQ for the infraction and now the talking heads are suggesting that Tiger should withdraw and that if he doesn't and manages to win that it would be an "asterisk" on his record.

Whoa baby - do we have enough drama?

The stewards of golf lameness in full effect.  So much for the spirit of competition.  And they wonder why the sport is in decline.

Both of these penalties are such a stretch.  This Masters just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.

A sad day for golf. Bobby Jones is rolling over in his grave.

I don't play or really follow golf anymore, but it's hard not to watch the Masters when it comes around every spring. Beautiful setting, and the thing I do like about golf is that the history of the game and the past champions are embraced and celebrated. Watching the Masters playoffs special on CBS right now - it's great, and really adds to the whole experience, IMHO.

So many other sports focus on creating new personalities they can use for branding and selling product, and really ignore what's come before. Marketing is a part of every sport, but I wish other sports would take a page from golf's approach.

Rules.gif

I vaguely recall one time many years ago Tiger was actually allowed to move a BIG ROCK/BOULDER that he had ended up about a foot behind. It took several people to move it.   I forget the details, but it had something to do with temporary status or relation to a sprinkler head.  Regardless, it seemed totally bogus that Tiger was allowed relief from what really appeared to be an obvious hazard.  I guess I find it cheesy for folks to leverage loopholes in the rules to seek better relief from hazards and lies that are the direct result of their previous swing.  BSmeter.gif

Golf is full of dumb rules that screw people over, there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of them from time to time when they work in your favor.

Speaking of rules..  The outrage is growing..

Tiger broke a rule, and the only way he can save face is to withdraw from the Masters

Has anyone in the Woods camp watched Golf Channel this morning? Has anyone bothered to check Twitter? Tiger has already lost in the court of public opinion, in a landslide. He has lost the TV analysts, he has lost the writers and even his fellow players, and he should have withdrawn instead of teeing it up with Gonzalo Fernandez-Costano at 1:45 p.m. Saturday. It was the only way Woods could have won the Masters.
