Looking for a good East Coast All Mountain Ski Ac30 Kastle MX/LX Motive ???

I know there have been a ton of threads on all mountain skis, but I'm looking for one that will be best for my skiing level and style.  I'm 5'8" 160 pounds, a solid level 7 skier who is looking for a ski that will take me to the next level.  One caveat is I have had somewhat of a hard time adjusting to the new style shaped skis and would prefer a ski that might help with the transition that has some old school feel.  I'll demo powder skis on heavier powder days and would like to keep the skis to no wider than 82mm.  (I plan on taking a series of lessons out West this year to aid with the transition). I ski pretty much the entire mountain but tend to shy away from the icy NE bumps a bit more as I've gotten older.

Thanks in advance for the input.  I've found this sight to be a huge wealth of information.

Since you are lighter and are still improving, the LX82 would be the best one out of that bunch, with the AC30 being at the bottom of my list. I wouldn't dismiss a trial of the Rictor, one of the better k2's in a long while.

Check out either the Blizzard Magnum 7.6 or the Dynastar Sultan 80. Both skis are strong intermediate level skis that an advanced level skier can still enjoy. They are both good options that will help you get better.

Avamb,

I have been flamed recently for writing too many glowing reviews of the AC30 for primarily East Coast skiing.

If you have any specfic questions concerning that ski shoot me a PM and I will be happy to oblige.

I have also skied the Bliaazrd 7.6 Mag and enjoyed it very much but its flat squareish tail lends itself more to new school style while the AC30's rounded turned up tail will be an easier transition from old school to new school. I have no experience with the Fisher or Kastle.

Just one persons opinion.

Take Philpug's advice - he knows what he speaketh, particularly for someone who wants some "old school feel".

Also look at the Sultan 80 and 85 - as with the previous Legend models, they're very accepting of "experienced" technique.

Rickg, I've read most of them and no worries, I've owned more Volkl than any other ski.  I think I'm going to take Philpug's advice and try and demo the LX82 (in a 164?, a bit shorter than I usually ski).  I was leaning toward a slightly narrower ski under foot.  Would the MX 78 be a bit too much ski compared to the LX?  And Philpug, I know you also mentioned the Rictor.  If I hadn't mentioned any of the above would there be another choice you may have recommended based on my skiing profile?  Thanks to everyone for all the responses, and I apologize in advance for all the questions.  It's just that I might not have a chance to demo the skis before pulling the trigger and would like to have the best shot at finding the ski thats right for me.  Appreciate the help.

If you ever ski Stowe, Skiershop has the LX82 and the MX78 for demo.
