Snowbasin Crowds During Dew Tour

I just realized I'll be in SLC for the exact four days of the Mountain Dew Tour. I'd like to get out to Snowbasin, but if the crowds are going to be huge, I'll stick to the Cottonwoods.

Last year, we hit Snowbasin on a Saturday "to avoid crowds" and found it to be the busiest resort of the 4 we tried (Snowbasin Saturday, Solitude Sunday, Snowbird Monday, Brighton Tuesday).  Maybe it was the day of the week, or maybe "the word" is getting out there.

Any thoughts?  Should we go on the Thursday?

Snowbasin gets lots of local traffic on a Saturday, you would be better off skiing Solitude on the weekend and skiing Snowbasin during the week.

What about the Dew Tour? Will that clog things up?  As well, I was initially hoping to reserve the two weekdays for Snowbird.  Maybe it'll be the bird on Friday and Sunday.

I skied Snowbasin during the Dew Tour last year and it was not that bad.  There were definitely a lot of people at the base and around the half pipe & slope style events.  However, most of these crowds were foot traffic and not skiers/boarders.  It was easy to get away from the crowds by heading to JP or Strawberry, or even staying up on the Middle Bowl and Porcupine chairs.

This is just an educated guess, but it shouldn't be that bad on Thursday. Are there even any events that day or does it start at night?

I'd definitely avoid the weekend though. I didn't go that weekend last year, but I heard it was pretty crowded. Why risk it?

Good to know.  Thanks!

When is this Dew Tour? I'm hoping to ski Snowbasin sometime in the next 2 weeks, not keen on being there with hordes of people.

Parking can be a problem, but the slopes themselves are not much different than normal.  Saturdays at Snowbasin have definitely gotten a lot busier in the past few seasons.  Lot's of special programs, events & races.

If you have any interest in this form of freestyle skiing (not sure why it is called freestyle?) it is worth checking out.  The atmosphere is lighthearted & fun.  The competitors & fans are all super cool, respectful & nice.  The fashion statements are worth it alone!

The biggest crowds last year were for the 1/2 pipe final, held at night.

I believe it is Feb. 10 - 14.

Ah good, I'll be gone by then (just).  Hoping to have Snowbasin all to myself! (rubs hands).
