One-legged awesome Haitian soccer players impresses me (also see video here):

Peacocks bickering on the internet over how awesome they are at their recreational pursuit and the gear they own, don't.

This thread reminded me about when I was debating on sitting for the Architectural exam with a contractor friend. He said, "Don't bother. You'd flunk the pomposity portion of the exam." rolleyes.gif

Yep, no one is as powerful as mother nature.  Heavy snows followed by heavy rain a real recipe for disaster.

When I was at Timberline to be a busboy and ski in the mid 60's that exact thing happened. melted like 10 feet of snow.

I am impressed by any skier who skis better than me. There are a lot of them and I always wish that I could ski that well but in most cases I never will.

BTW I am 56 and a strong level 8/9 skier. I am in my 39th consecutive season averaging 25-30 days a year for the last 25 years (maybe 10-15 days a year before that) all while building a business and a family. I do ski bumps. I do ski trees or at least the spaces in between the trees. I do ski chutes. I do ski icy slopes. I do ski powder and I race in an adult league (BBVet class) where there are many racers who race better than me but fewer that ski better all around. I will attempt to ski just about anything that I can keep my skis on the ground, no cliff jumping for me at my age, not that I could huck a cliff at 25.

Most people who ski with me out west tell me I am one of the best skiers they have ever skied with. I tell them they should ski with more people as there are many many better skiers than me but they just haven't met them yet.

Has my honesty impressed you?

I'm impressed by that third shot of Shania. What happened between the top right one (Chicago  uni) and the bottom one?   I think I had socks like that in the 70's.

I'm impressed by birds. At least the ones that can fly. The ones that can't fly, I kind of want to take them by the feathers and shake them a bit, point to the other birds who can fly and ask "why were your ancestors so lazy?"

As for skiing, I'm an average hack. There are tons of people out there who ski better than me. Not all are impressive, but some are.

I'm impressed by people who seem to be happy all the time, no matter what.

Damn...I guess you can tell I never watch sports on tv. Except the TDF, and the occasional skiing show/race.

LOL I sometimes make myself puke too. biggrin.gif Sorry, my post was meant to be toungue and cheek.

Seriously though, I was very impressed with a skier I met on a chair in the back bowls of Vail last week. I wish I would have caught his name. He was 40'ish and was obviously an adaptive skier. He was on tradional skis that were tied together in the front like the kids ski aid and using crutch out riggers. i started out talking to him about his equipment and learned that he had a spinal cord injury at age 5 and has been an adaptive athlete most his life. Worked at a ski shop in town some where. He was one of the most gracious and courageous gentleman not to mention a great skier that I have ever met.

He impressed me!

Sorry, my lst impression was wrong.  Someday when I learn to ski maybe my impressive quotient will adapt.
