It's Awards Season--how about some EpicSki Awards?

I was thinking that we should jump on the awards bandwagon and create some enduring annual awards for EpicSki, complete with a statuette (which we would call ???), given in categories uniquely meaningful to us.

Here are some nominees for awards and qualifications (all quantifiable through stats) off the top of my head--please feel free to add your own:

Epic Thread Starter Award

To the member whose OPs start the longest threads over the past year, cumulatively, meaning we're not talking about starting one major thread but starting the most longest threads. That's because we want to have a special award in the category for

The Longest Thread Award

To the member whose OP starts the longest thread of the year.

Most Loquacious Responder Award

To the member who racks up the most replies to threads.

Trippiest EpicSkier of the Year

To the member who starts the most TR threads.

Teacher of the Year

To the member who starts the most threads in the Coaching & Instruction forum.

Student of the Year

To the member who racks up the most replies to threads in C&I.

Critic of the Year

To the member who contributes the most reviews to the Gear Review Forum.

.........

So, do you like this idea?

Do you have any ideas for the statuette? Should we do plaques? Certificates? How gaudy should we get?

What should we call it?

Etc.?

Sounds like an interesting idea. I admit that I had to look up the word Loquacious. redface.gif

You should also add some juicy categories:

-- Best helmet discussion thread of the year.

-- Most protracted and heated technique debate.

-- Best threat to leave and go somwehere else.

Best trip report/photography/stoke award

Keep with the forums reputation we should have a Best Gaper and Best Poser award.

So you're suggesting we do some judging as well as counting? How would we do that without an Official Judging Body? Who gets ballots?

(I think I am beginning to recall why we never have done awards...)

Loquacious, garrulous, voluble, circumlocutory...all the great synonyms for my very favorite: GASSY.

Best thread-killer.

Best "why rockers suck" thread

Most effective emoticon usage in a thread award smile.gif

Most offensive private message to the Mods ???

... I'm sorry.

I agree nolo that these should be "countable" not "judgeable" rewards.  My memory of the free skis contest is that it was a bit divisive.

Most repeated location question that could/should be dealt with by using the SEARCH button ("where should I go in Utah" probably has this one hands down)'

Most repeated gear question (probably a shoot out between "which ski for me", and "which twin tip")

Most absurd answer to (any) gear question -no matter what the question is ("AC30 is the greatest (rolleyes.gif)" seems to be winning right now)

Dumbest boot question (probably multiple winners for this catagory).

Most unnecessary topic to bring up again (helmets, restraining bar, ipod/music would seem to be winners)

I certainly am not saying division is something to be strived for, but I have to be honest and state that the trivial things that people argue over is part of the entertainment value of any on-line forum. I think most would admit that it's the juicy stuff that breaks the monotony and adds some spice to the on-line experience.

It can be entertaining to follow the clash of egos and the challenges for ski-offs that occur now and then on this forum. This type of stuff is not specific to Epic, however. Whenever people gather in an anonymous fashion, you are going to find it happening.

I come here for serious discussions but I also find it interesting when someone throws out a bone and we are all treated to an impromptu gladiatorial event. I know that comes across as a bit immature on my part, but I have to be honest. That's what makes the Internet so interesting.

Definitely a lot of truth to what you say MM.

Along that line, how about a "BSD" award? Plenty of those around here, and just think of the possibilities for the statuette!

Along that line of thinking -- re pissing matches, someone suggested we differentiate between accuracy and distance.

Are all posts to C&I teaching?  Are all replies learning?

Not at all, Xela. It's just an attempt to get our arms around one category. Maybe we should combine the two for C&I and call it the Technoweenie of the Year award.
