ISO Advice: Katana 190, Mantra 184, Gotama 183, or ANT 191s?

I'm shopping used skis here. Found good deals on all of these. Here's where I'm at:

6'1", 190 lbs, and spend all my time at the Vail Resorts. Mainly ski Breck, Keystone, and Vail in that order. I have an older pair of Atomic parabolics that do quite well for me on the groomers. I'm way overdue for a fatter ski, and looking to step up my powder game and hit the trees a bit harder up at 6 chair, Contest, and Imperial (Breck), North Peak at Keystone, and the back bowls at Vail. Nothing too tight though. I'd call myself an advanced skier (not expert) who has been held back by lack o' proper gear. Have skied a friend's '07 Mantras several times (I think they were 190's, but not absolutely sure) and loved them. Granted I know they're not the best powder skis, but compared to the Atomics, I have been in heaven. Because of my Mantra experience, I am shopping Volkl.

Anyway, should I hold out because none in this list match my height/weight/skiing style? i.e. the Katanas should be shorter and the Goats and Mantras longer? Is the ANT too much ski for me?

None of them are this year's models, but none are older than 06.

THANKS!

What year Katana? What year Goat? I think I'd go Katana probably regardless of year but definitely if it's the 2010 or 2011 ski (no powder channel).

The Katanas are 08/09s, but according to the description, "they've been p-tex'd in a few places."  The price is very good though.  Katanas don't ski short, do they?

The Goats are 06/07s and the bases are in great shape but the topsheet has some imperfections.

The ANTs are 2nd gen 07s and have one core shot that has been P-tex'd

The Mantras have since been sold. Should I be shopping for 190s or forget Mantras altogether?

Hey Cheese.  I've owned all three of those Volkls but don't know the ANT.  Based on your size and the way you would use the skis of the three Volkls I think your best bet would be the Katanas (great, great ski!).  They are very versatile for their size and you probably would ski them more often than you think.  I would steer clear of the Mantras based on your needs as they are stiff and narrow (relatively speaking).  I don't think the Volkls ski "short", but I will add that there is no way to measure that vintage Goat or Katana and come up with the stated size (they are 1 or 2 cm shorter than stated). I'm 20 lbs heavier than you and went with the 190's (and would recomend that) but either of the sizes could work for you.  Also, on those skis Volkl had a front mounting line and a rear mounting line about 5 cm apart.  The rear line was the so called all mountain line but everyone that I knew on those skis much preferred splitting the difference, including me (if you subscribe to the ball of the foot method of binding location most feet would end up very close to the middle).  I only mention this in case you have to move a binding piece.  Good luck.
