Looking to mount a set of P18 Racing bindings (same as pictured above) to my new Ski Logik Bomb Squads, which are 122mm waist (probably wider in actuality). Not sure if the brakes have sufficient length to bend around a ski this wide, so I decided to look into replacement wide brakes and leave bending as a last resort.
Brought the bindings into a local ski shop and asked them to check with Rossignol or Look for replacement wide brakes. Also let them know they are equivalent to the Rossignol FKS bindings. After a few days, the shop got back to me and informed me of a couple issues:
1. The widest they make is 100mm so it won't work (I know this is false because the FKS 180 XXL has 120mm brakes)
2. This is transcribed from voice mail:
"They make the brake in the new FKS series, but because of your binding being as old as it is, from 2005, they do not allow us to buy brakes for the old series. They discontinued your series and came out with FKS last year. They do not sell me brakes for the older series or whatever. The plate or something is different underneath and it's not compatible I guess is what it is."
Can someone knowledgeable help check this for B.S.?
The guy I'm working with at the shop isn't the most knowledgeable regarding these bindings but he seems genuine in wanting to help. I'm thinking either the person he spoke with at Rossignol: a) thinks I have some other binding such as Axial 1/2; b) is incompetent; or c) does not want to sell brakes for an older binding for whatever stupid reason. Maybe I'm mistaken and there is indeed a difference in the design of the heel piece that would make the brakes incompatible?
FWIW, I called Rossignol parts and warranty and found out replacement wide brakes for FKS 180 are sold out until Spring anyways.
