I have yet to see a road biker with a mouthguard, and a couple guys on the club rides are dentists. Just sayin'...
what kind of dentists are they? I'm in shock. Dentists are generally pretty pessimistic about the human mouth and it's chances for a decent future.
Coincidentally I too got slammed by my ski pole and I was using a full face helmet. Pole end went right in between the mouth guard and the top of the helmet, hit me square in the face, nearly knocked me out. Shattered my $125 Uvex goggles, and left me with a flap of meat on my brow that is now a 1/2" scar. So yeah no matter what you can still get hurt, but I would rather increase my chances for not doing so.
Oh and I do armor up...after I broke my back and thumb a few season ago in a high speed ski accident I decided that was a sign to add more protection.
Ok, face bashed, back broke, thumb shot. glad you took stock. hate to think you'd slow down or reduce the risk. and I mean that.
Man, I relate. I am so scared of anything that relates to my attack last March. I just get a very creepy feeling at anything that reminds me. I have not yet gone back to the site, that is way too scary still.
