If you have a Nevica jacket with a Recco built in, you may want to consider checking it before you fly and wear something else on the airplane.

Last spring on our way to Colorado, we got hung up at the screening checkpoint at JFK because of the "little unidentified box" sewn into the sleeve of my jacket. The folks working the x-ray at JFK most likely don't ski and have never heard of such a thing as an avalanche transmitter (stay away from the words "transmitter" or "receiver" when flying!) I was ready to ask them to take one of their confiscated box cutters and remove it just so I can make my plane.

Thank goodness a supervisor checked my ticket to see that yes, I was going to Colorado, which he advised the screener, is where people ski in avalanches... :
