Pros: Scenery, local culture, Kms of runs, great value and good beer!
Cons: Busy, short lifts
To get the best from the area follow weather reports and avoid areas over 2-2500 meters on days with poor weather conditions including low clouds or high winds, on clear days with light wind, those are the exact areas to visit, so be flexible and know when the buses leave. Snow conditions can be very good and powdery if snow fall has been recent, however with the volumes of skiers patches of icy piste can become evident in the afternoons so piste skis are usually preferable.
Austria can be very reasonably priced and the bar culture is firmly established, with excellent German and local Zillertal beer is available, but with food it can hard to escape meat and bread, unless you look far and wide. German is by far the most dominant language in the area, and there a large number of German visitors, but English is widely spoken, bring your phrase book only if you enjoy speaking in German.
In short, not a premium area, but well capable of giving you an excellent highly enjoyable ski holiday.
