Pros: Great retrospective of 70's freestyle
Cons: Produced from 35 mm film, some not in good condition
A fun movie that relives the birth of the freestyle skiing movement and social vibe of the early 70s. This movie was gifted to me by Chuck Boone. I really enjoyed reliving the early days of skiing. Chuck has been active along with a number of legendary skiers in the thread Hot Dog Freestyle The Old School.
I had forgotten how dynamic and athletic "ballet" skiing was before it became a specialty event. The the IFSA competitors had to be proficient at three disciplines; ballet, moguls and freeskiing, to have a shot at winning gave the competition a very different strategy than today's events. Some very good skiing on relatively straight and narrow skis, and yes, we could ski powder on those.
If the film quality and sound can be restored this will be a great film. The original version is a bit heavy on narration for today's audience, but it is very informative. Highly recommend the movie if you have a chance to obtain a copy, or attend a screening. A higher resolution version is expected soon, and is currently being screened by Chuck at special events. The new version is supposed to include material edited out of the original, and should be a lot of fun.
