Good place to ski -- can get crowded on weekend

Pros: Separate lifts serving Green trails and Blue/Black trails; within 2hrs of DC & Bal; Good snow making; Trails well lit at night; good staff

Cons: Lift for Green trails are slow; can get crowded during day (12-5pm)

Pros:  Decent size with a variety of terrain.  Within 2 hours driving from DC, BAL. Good snow making ability.  All trails are well lit at night. Friendly staff.   Cons:  Can get crowded during the weekends. The quad lift for the green trails (SnowPark&Sidewinder) is slow.   I have skied four days at Whitetail, PA (2014 Feb 15-16 and 2015 Feb 14-15) during President's day weekend.   The mountain has a convenient meeting place where most of the trails meet at the bottom of the mountain.   I only skied on the green trails and 3 intermediate trails (Stalker, SnowDancer, Limelight).  I cannot speak about the black diamond trails or the...

A good place to learn to ski-then take a it up a notch at a better mountain!

Pros: Good Vertical Drop

Cons: Big crowds, Reckless skiers, Terrain gets skied out quickly

PROS: A decent mountain that is good for learning and working on your skiing technique.  It has a good variety of trails.  For the resorts closest to DC/Baltimore, it is better than Liberty (less crowds) and Roundtop (more vertical & more challenge).  The Vertical Drop is about 1,000ft and the lifts will get you back up on the hill quickly.     CONS: It's lift lines are super long on the weekends, the trails are crowded with uncontrollable skiers that are putting up yard sales all over the place, and the lift tickets are really high.  Really now, it's not Vermont or Colorado so the lift ticket prices shouldn't be comparable!     There...

A local review- Close yes, but its probably worth it to drive another 50 miles

Pros: fast lift, great marketing, ski school, events

Cons: cost, crowds, terrain, weather

I had a season pass at Whitetail during its opening season, as a freshman in college and a mediocre skier I had a GREAT time at this resort. If you can get there during midweek-days it can be a very fun place. The first review here describes the terrain very well.   I went back the last two seasons for a day trip hoping I could get in a lot of laps due to the high speed quad (I was getting tired of the slow lifts at nearby resorts).  Last year I made the mistake of going on a Saturday and the crowds were unbearable.    The terrain here is well divided and you can get away from the beginners over at the expert area with its 3...

Whitetail on MLK Day 1/17/11

Pros: Package deal comes w/ group lesson, vertical for the area, separate areas for beginners and more experienced skiiers

Cons: No alcohol/nightlife, no tree/glade areas, little nearby place to stay

My wife (Pandita) and I went to Whitetail on this day.   Since our skis were at our place at 7 Springs, we had to rent.  We got a package deal with an all-day pass (holiday rate), ski rentals (we had our boots), and a lesson for $107 each.  We consider ourselves to be low advanced skiers, although my wife is better and more experienced than myself.  Neither one of us is to proud to turn down a lesson for 48 cents more for the package.    We had a lot of fun and enjoyed ourselves.   I liked how the beginners area and the intermediates and up are in separate area.   All of the blacks are served by one lift.  There is one...

Fast and easy

Pros: high speed detachable quad, lots of snowmaking, close to DC

Cons: pricy without discount card

I love the high speed detachable quad lift. On a weekday, hit the lift without any line, 2 mins i'm back at the top. I can ski laps up and down and get more snow time in 1/2 day that i could in a whole day elsewhere.  lots of snowmaking, close to DC (1.5 to 2hrs). Advantage card gives you 40% off standard prices.
