Treetops Sylvan Resort
Description:

Treetops Sylvan Resort, in the heart of Northern Michigan's snowbelt, is a perfect family getaway. Located outside "The Alpine Village" of Gaylord, Treetops has an average annual snow fall of 153 inches, which provides the ideal setting for fantastic Alpine and Nordic skiing. The trails wind their way through the majestic hardwood forests that cover the 400-acre winter park. While snow at Treetop is usually abundant, they are prepared to take the weather into their own hands. State-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming equipment can pile up snow and have it groomed into fresh blankets of snow in a matter of hours. Staying at Treetops, you're only minutes away from access to a network of groomed Northern Michigan Trails. Connecting snowmobile systems, including six adjoining counties, offer hundreds of miles of scenic riding, plus they offer sled and trailer parking for overnight guests.

Pros: Great lessons for beginners

Cons: Weather is shaky

Spent one week here learning to ski while taking a course in Native American Literature (graduation requirement). Staying at the Inn was really cool with plenty of room in the bedroom included office area, two queen beds, balcony and wifi. The location of my room was strategically placed within walking distance (25 yards) to the top of the hills giving me an 'almost' ski in/ski out experience=]

The slopes are forgiving for beginners and intermediates but cater to advanced skiers as well with a few nice single black runs. The instructors were great and knew how to quickly determine everyones' skiing abilities and respond to them accordingly.

If you are a student and want to learn how to ski for cheap, or just have a good time skiing I would go here. The place is really cool and the karaoke bar aka 'Broken Club Pub' has good times written all over it.
