Pros: Wide open runs, ridges, faces, walls, views
Cons: Getting there & muddy parking lot
I've skied just 4 places on the South Island of NZ, and all of them involved an arduous drive from the main road up to the base area - on dirt roads. The Remarkables was no different. If you follow the rules to only look over the edge if you're the passenger and not the driver, then you'll be OK!
Our experience up at the Remarkables, right above Queenstown, was a good one. We loved the terrain, the views and the perspectives. Especially when we took off our skis and hiked up to the lookout for our view of the lake and Queenstown. It's worth the hike not only for the view, but for the skiing down from there too. It's what I call an adventuring mountain - every corner you turn there's something else fun awaiting you.
