Pros: Great steeps, no crowds, cheap tickets witha great vibe!
Cons: Slow lifts, average CO snowfall.
Sunlight- its great. A local hill with 2000 vert, a ton of glades and steeps that see very little traffic, and nice friendly folks all over the mountain. Tickets are some of the cheapest in CO, as is the slopeside lodging.
The only real downside is the lifts are fixed grip, long, and slow. Base to Summit is 30 minutes over 2 lifts, and the East Ridge, where the steepest terrain hangs out, requires both lift rides.
There is some great stuff here. Tom J's and Joslin Glades are well-spaced evergreen glades, Zephyr, Cassanova, Gibson as tighter Aspen gladed fun.
Defiance is one of Sunlight's classic runs- a solid long and steep run plunging down the valley. Fancy yourself a mogul skier? Show off your stuff on Showdown in full view of the lodge. Primo runs the lift line, and develops large, rollers and kickers to play with.
The Heathen is the steepest run here (and one of the steeper runs in Colorado period!), but the the toughest stuff is to skiers right of Defiance- runs like Deception, The Slopt, Alley Oops, and Que Pasa are all tight to very tight trees in some legitimate steeps.
Cruisers more your thing? Sun King and Joslin are some of the best. Lots of good cruisers off of Segundo too- Peace Pipe, Dawson, and Crystal are where it is at.
Further skiers left off of Segundo leads to mild low- intermediate terrain.
Sunlight has lots of skiing for everybody, and the single base means it is easy for skiers of different skills to ski what they want and still meet up for the next lift.
Don't miss out on the ski swim and stay package- get a lift ticket, hot springs pass, and a room for about $100. Unbeatable!
