Pros: Very warm, excellent pockets, very waterproof and comfortable
Cons: hidden badge access, bulk around the middle
I bought this jacket on a super sale at Taos Bootdoctor and have worn it on days when it was so cold the lifties owuld not let you up with any exposed skin ... no problem. This jacket is warm, warm, warm, plus wind and waterproof. It also has a what for me was a surprisingly nice number of handy and roomy pockets, and enough zipper access interior pockets for me to stash a smartphone, camera, and other little doodads with confidence. Excellent resort skiing jacket - good style and a bright blue color. The zippers and other fasteners are also very stout and have held up quite well over the time I have had it.
The major thing I would change in this product is to make it more streamlined in fit - it's a bit baggy around the middle for my tastes, and you can feel it when you ski in it. However, there are plenty of days when its serious wind and weather protection make you forget all about that extra material. Another nice thing to change would be the elastically retracting badge access - I have had other jackets where the badge was in a clear pocket by the powder skirt, and this was easy to work with bulky gloves ... not so the Vail. The retractable badge holder is not something I can maneuver with my super warm gloves, and so I have resorted to fixing my lift badge or tickets elsewhere so I am not hunting for them in the lift lines. It's a detail you don't expect in a jacket of this price range, in my opinion.
