Pros: Very Close to Philly, Great for kids
Cons: Old lifts, few runs, crowded at time
The primary reason we ski at Spring it that it is so close to our home in the Philly suburbs. It is perfect if you just want to head out in the morning, ski a little, and be home for dinner. My kids (5 and 7) love it and it is perfect for beginners and kids with great ski instructors. If you are an experienced skier you will probably hate Spring or get bored quick. There aren't many runs and the terrain is not challenging.
When friends ask me if Spring is a good ski resort I usually respond that it is not a "resort". I like to think of Spring as a skiing version of a roller rink. Not challenging, a lot of repetition, and plenty of Mom's sitting inside while their kids "skate" for a few hours. This isn't a knock on Spring you just need to know what to expect when going there, think like day at the rink not a day in the mountains.
On the staff and amenities side, the staff is awesome, friendly, and helpful. The amenities are limited to a basic cafe with "ballpark" food (hotdogs, pizza, etc.) and tubing. Not much but enough for a fun daytrip.
My only real complaints about Spring are their lifts and parking lot. The lifts are old and a little scary (time for a upgrade?). The parking is mostly a gravel lot and during the early winter and spring can be a muddy mess. If you can get beyond these things you can have a fun day there.
