Pros: Close to Portland, Family Friendly, uncrowded, good deals

Cons: Less snow than the bigger mountains in Maine

Shawnee Peak (Pleasant Mountain) has a long tradition of providing affordable family skiing.  It is low elevation without much between it and the ocean so snow can be warm at times.  There are some very fun runs that have been cut into the East side when the snow is fresh.  Greg Stumps home mountain so there is that.
