Pros: Advanced Terrain, Lots of dry snow, No line ups
Cons: Tough to get to, not family friendly. If you arent good, this isn't your best choice
This is my home mountain. It is awesome!
The inbounds bowls and glades here are absolutly unreal. There are rarley line ups, and by that I mean that our opening day line up is comparible to a line up at harmony bowl at Whistler Blackcomb on an average tuesday. I skied around 50 days last year and easily 1/3 of them were powder days. Revelstoke gets more snow than Kicking Horse which is on the "wrong side of the pass" for snow but an equally gnarly mountain for sure with equally amazing locals. Fernie and Whistler also get tons of snow and are 2 of my other favorite mountains having lived at both for seasons in the past. However Whistler gets tracked out within hours because of the insane amount of access and people and Fernie doesn't have the altitude to keep it from raining all the way to the top of the mountain after an epic dump. Fernie also gets an absolute ton of weekend Calgary traffic which can make lineups a nightmare on weekends, although this is nothing compared to Whistler. If you want to go somewhere with primarily expert terrain, no line ups, and dry choke on it accidentally powder then Revelstoke is the place to be. Lift tickets are around $70/day and early bird seasons passes are only $720 which is way better than anywhere comparable in the BC interior.
The downside is that it is 6 hours from both Vancouver and Calgary, although this is an upside when you live there. There is also very little terrain for beginers so maybe leave the kids at home unless they rip. The mountain also takes some time to get familiar with although getting lost is normally how you find the best spots. Another downside is that there is no terrain park if that is what you are into, but there are tons of in bounds cliffs/cornaces/pillow lines that are all fun to hit. The restaurant at the base kind of sucks for atmosphere but there are some awesome places in town for apres, ie Village Idiot, Last Drop, The Cabin, The Great White North etc...
Most people that I meet that live in Revy to ski have spent seasons in other places like Whistler, Fernie, Kicking Horse, Panorama, etc and all of them came to Revy for the same reasons - this place is just better if skiing is what you live for.
