Pros: Steep, steep runs and north-facing slopes

Cons: Not a lot of variety beyond the steeps

Moonlight Basin abuts Big Sky on the North. Since almost all the runs are north-facing the snow stays fresh days after a snowstorm. The area encompasses the fantastic steeps of the Headwaters Area and the terrain accessible from the Big Sky tram (transceivers and shovels required) --North Summit Snowfields and Deepwater Bowl. Novice and intermediates will enjoy the long runs. The Moonlight Basin Lodge is the place for a great deli lunch, serving both Big Sky and Moonlight Basin guests--the Iron Horse lift is co-owned so Big Sky skiers can ski in and ski out of Moonlight for lunch with ease.
