Pros: stylish, wind/waterproof, lots of pockets, powder skirt, bomb proof material
Cons: baggy, high MSRP for a performance shell, hood not helmet compatible
This is a great jacket and Patagonia offers nice colors. The jacket has everything you will need on a ski jacket: powder skirt, water/windproof material, great durability, many pockets if you like to carry stuff and at the same time it won`t bother if you don`t like to carry stuff.
The jacket has a total of 7 pockets including media, shoulder and key pocket, the only negative regarding the pockets are the 2 waist pocket that will get in the way of a wait belt if you like to use backpack. For resort skiing with no backpack the wait pocket are great and have fleece inside. The media pocket is accessible through the chest pocket. Also has two big internal mesh pockets for gloves, goggle.
Material is gore-tex performance shell on the 2011 model, this is very durable I`ve used the jacket for about a month 10 days skiing and have had some bad falls and no sign of any damage.
As well as the powder bowl pants it has a thin insulation layer, so it`s good for really cold days but might be too much for spring skiing. The jacket has a powder skirt that connects to the powder bowl pants, both work great together.
I got the blue/orange color and it looks really nice!
The only negative I have is that it`s a little too baggy. If you like a baggy fit this is the jacket for you, provides lots of room for layers, but for me 5'5"/150lbs the small still has room even layering with a fleece and down jacket (oakley sethmo), so if you like a slim fit jacket go look for something else.
The hood is detachable which is great, although it is not really helmet compatible, my small jacket hood doesn`t fit very well over my medium smith helmet. That`s why I don`t use the hood, I just prefer to remove it.
Overall a great quality jacket, lots of features, but you have to find it in a sale, since $400 seems a little too much for a gore-tex performance shell. But Patagonia offers top notch quality gear, this is something to consider.
