Opedix Tights March 2012
Pros: comfort and fit
Cons: Pretty warm in 80 degree weather
OK let me tell you about the Opedix tights, they came just in time for me to wear them today. The price I listed is from the website. I won the chance to review these here on Epic. Thank You Again! These are a well made pair of tights ,what you’d expect from a high end base layer. I am 6’-2” -205 lbs which put me in a large. It used to be I had the scrawny leg thing going on but I guess all these years in the gym paid off. What I am getting at is that the size is right on but right about lower leg area I feel like I could use the XL (but wouldn’t know what to do with the extra waist). At any rate the fit is best described as tights and the support in immediate. The second material is a much less spandex and very heavy duty, running down the quad and adding support to the knee area surrounding it and giving you a little added something that's hard to describe but when you put them on you feel it.
SO what did they ski like you might wonder? How about this, I was fairly impressed, I put them on this morning for my level 2 exam and skied well, (at least I thought so) (we’ll see about that after tomorrow), but the temperatures were in the 80’s (yes really I swear!) I had to peel them off for the afternoon. I noticed a difference, sure conditions degraded after the temps rose but I could feel the additional support my quads were getting (only after I took them off).
The bottom line? I have one more examiner to ski with tomorrow,it’s going to be nearly as warm,I’ll be wearing them. I wish it were a little colder BUT with these type of conditions I think the tights showed their worth to me. What kind of conditions? Brown snow everywhere, puddles, pools, chopped up base and not the typical corn snow, more like a seven eleven slurpee kind of snow. A real challenge to stay balanced and perform all these PSIA maneuvers in.
You might notice I said nothing about knee problems,I have pretty decent knees but I know plenty of people who don’t. If you ski and you require extra knee support you owe it to yourself to give them a try!
