Myoko

Myoko is an area in central Japan, just north of Nagano.   It consists of several smaller resorts, namely Akakura, Akakura Onsen ( which are joined and can be skied on a combined ticket), Ikentontoria, Suginohara, and the smaller but ever deep Seki Onsen.

Myoko gets some of the most regular and biggest dumps of snow of anywhere in Japan,  week long totals in excess of 1M are not unusual.

Most of the Myoko resorts are pretty lenient about skiing in the trees and out of bounds, but as usual they are still a bit wary of people skiing under lift lines.

The resorts only go approx 3/4 of the way up the mountain, leaving plenty of room above for skilled people to explore, but serious avalanche condition do exist.

Surrounded by a series of small villages the Myoko resorts are popular with local Japanese and can get mildly busy on the weekends, however during the week most of the resorts are pretty empty.
