Pros: Headwaters, Lonetree lift, tree skiing, pwder stashes hang around.
Cons: very cold in Dec-Jan, Headwaters Bony until Feb-March
I had a season pass here last year. It was a good season, but I decided to buy a Big Sky pass for next year. MLB is small, friendly and has some great terrain. The problem is that the Headwaters doesn't really get filled in until the Spring. Lone tree lift is great but gets old after yo-yoing the 100th time.
It is really depressing in Dec to be in the shadows all day, and not be able to find a run on a sunny aspect to get warmed. North facing aspects are great-but it is nice to have the option to follow the sun around when needed. I mean in the shadow of Lone Peak in Dec it gets freakin cold!!
The groomers are more suited for intermediates and novices-not many good steep fall line turns too be had here on groomers. Good tree skiing however-
Not trying to be negative-I really like the place, just not enough to buy a season pass again. I really wish Big Sky would have bought MLB when they had the chance. The Headwaters really sets this place apart-I am going to miss them dearly, but most of the core skiers I met had access to both sides (Big Sky and MLB)-I always felt trapped at MLB looking over at Big Sky.
If the Headwaters were more reliable, I would have renewed my pass-I know last year was poor in terms of snow coverage, but even in good years it takes a while for the HW to get rolling (except for 2010-11 perhaps)
