Pros: Great groomers, super friendly locals, great for families
Cons: Off the beaten path, smallish
My favorite hill. Heiligenblut is not the biggest place and it can be a bit difficult to get to, but it is so beautiful there that it will take your breath away. It's really two mountains, with the second accessible by a small underground train. The on-mountain huts with food and drink are a nice touch, and provide excellent food with warm, friendly service. They really groom well there, but when there is good snowfall you can go off piste easily. Heiligenblut is particularly great for families, but not so much for those who want to shred all day and party all night. If you find yourself at Heiligenblut, stay at one of the numerous bed and breakfasts (Pensions in German). The locals are super friendly, the breakfasts will be great, and the pensions are much, much cheaper than the local hotels. Highly recommended.
