Grand Targhee Reviews

The best snow on earth...is in Wyoming!

Pros: no crowds, A LOT of snow, can find fresh tracks anywhere

Cons: nightlife is non-existant, no decent size city at base, not family friendly, foggy a lot

Forget all those advertisements about Utah.  The best snow is in Wyoming.  We were there for 5 days and it snowed almost every night.  The funny thing is the locals don't even show up unless there's at least 10" of fresh snow because it happens so often. This is not the place for people who like to ski groomers though.  Groomed runs are practically non-exsitance.  There are probably less groomed runs than there are fingers on my right hand.  You get off the chair lift at the top and are basically allowed to ski down to the bottom in whatever fashion you wish.  There weren't really any signs for marked runs other than the few groomers that seemed like they were created by however the...

Great Resort

Pros: Great snow, Not crowded, great snow, foggy.

Cons: uhhh

Grand Targhee, is nestled right under the Tetons. The view is incredible if it isn't foggy and snowing. Some say the fog is a con, but the locals consider it a PRO! Because Targhee has such a high elevation it seems to hold a lot of fog, the fog is like a tourist repellent. Any of the hard core locals will tell you, they love the thick fog and blinding snow. With over 500 annually Targhee has more than its fair share of powder days! Unlike destination resorts in CO and UT, Targhee is never packed due to the harsh conditions. If you are a hard core shredder this is the place for you.

My new favorite ski area

Pros: uncrowded, LOTS of snow, great terrain, lots of tree skiing

Cons: can't think of any

My son and I spent two days skiing at GT, February 24-25, 2014 and had a great time, in spite of really poor visibility due to the clouds being down on the mountain.  We didn't ski off the Dreamcatcher lift much because of that but the terrain off the Blackfoot and Sacajawea lifts were great fun.  We both like trees and GT has a lot, including a gentle glade area just for kids.  There is a cliff band to the left of the top of Sacajawea that offers some pretty gnarly drops down to Middle Earth, a great run easily access from the Dreamcatcher lift.  GT is only about 350 miles from where I live and I plan to start making it a yearly trip.  There is good ...

Powder Targhee

Pros: Wide open and less steep, great snow

Cons: Bus ride from Jackson Hole

Great powder day, had great visibility, defying nick name Grand Foggy (Fri 2/27/09)Well worth the bus trip for one day from Jackson Hole, over 1 hr, use Alltran - they incude lift ticket and ride for under $90. Just a wide open, only moderately steep mountain.Spent very little time on the groomersEpic ski buddy told me there is as much skiable terrain area as at JH. Only chair lifts, great base facilities, lookers, food, you must eat at the bottom of the hill. Was a great last day of my wkeek trip.   (Thanks Sal)
