Pros: lots of un-groomed terrain

Cons: Cascade concrete

Crystal is a large area that is mostly un-groomed, deep, (usually heavy) powder.  It has several bowls of lift-accessible, avalanche controlled terrain.  This is a real playground for advanced skiers.  There are plenty of runs for beginners and intermediates, but you need to be able to ski steep slopes with deep, heavy snow to be able to really appreciate this place.

There is a great run for true beginners that has its own, dedicated chair lift, which is nice for the little ones. However, the rest of the greens are a big step up.

Another key point, people here are nice.  Please, if you are not nice, there are lots of other ski areas where you will have a great time.

watch the weather forecast. The only problem with Crystal is it is about a thousand feet too low. fantastic terrain and views, but it can get the rain thing a the base. But spring skiing with Rainier in the background is fantastic. We used to go over and hike the cornices up into Cambell Basin, sweet drops. I have not been there for many years so have not had a chance to see the new lift terrain, use to hike out to get the stuff now serviced by the new chair. All in all I agree that Crystal is one of the northwests premier areas if you like adverse terrain that actually takes skill and sweat in the rough stuff but still have easy groomers. Lodgeing is available at the area, but not a lot. More for skiing than parties.
