Cranmore
Description:

These days, Cranmore mountain resort is on a mission to cater to the needs of young families. So if it's sex, drugs and rock & roll you seek, this is definitely not the place. Describing itself as New England's "snowplay resort," Cranmore offers the skiing and riding you'd expect, plus snowtubing, snowshoeing, ice skating and other services to keep children entertained. Along with an atmosphere geared to families, Cranmore gets high marks for its new lift ticket prices, which are significantly lower than most of the competition and valid every day, without exceptions. Because the resort is located in North Conway, visitors have easy access to dozens of restaurants, lodging options and shopping outlets.

Pros: Family oriented. Terriffic variety of terrain.

Mt. Cranmore one of the classic ski resorts in North America, harking back to the 1930s when people arrived by the ski train. The railroad station is still there and rides are available on the Conway Scenic RR. Until recently, Mt. Cranmore was reknowned for the Skimobile, a one of a kind lift that was a cross between the SF trolleys and a slot car. The Skimobile has been torn down due to age, but you'll see plenty of the cars around town.

The skiing includes a variety of terrain from the challenging Ledges, Koessler and Scheider trails to the Gibson Trail and South Slope greens. Its easy to meet up at either the top of the mountain at the historic log cabin replete with wood fire and cafeteria or one of the base area facilities.

Everyone will have a fun time at Cranmore. In addition, there are 3 other major alpine ski areas within 30 minutes, loads of nordic skiing, skating, shopping and the ambiance that comes from a resort community that has been hosting guests since the middle of the 19th century.

Pros: Cheap, good for families

Cons: Small, not many difficult trails

This mountain was fun for easy slopes, but not very challenging. Great for families and small kids. They have a $1 day every year, and I would suggest going on that day if your money conscious.
