Cheeseman Ski Area

Cheeseman Ski Area

Established in 1929, Mt Cheeseman has a friendly relaxed culture that promotes a fun, family environment in an alpine setting. Cheeseman is the second closest ski area to Christchurch being just 90 minutes drive away. The ski area is a sunny east to south east basin with open rolling terrain. Cheeseman is open to the public and with great beginner and intermediate slopes, it is perfect for learners and families. For adventurers looking for untracked trails and off-piste experiences Mt Cockayne offers challenging powder skiing and fantastic views of the Craigieburn Range. Two T Bars give easy access to well groomed all round terrain and the learners tow is located right beside the lodges.

Pros: Good for the family, beginner to intermediate, great access to ski touring terrain

Cons: limited for experts, short runs

Cheeseman is a fantastic family place to ski so long as you are use to T-bars which can be difficult for little ones. The Mountain offers great value ski weeks where you can stay on the hill and get fed too. If you are an advanced to expert skier you may get a little bored with the short runs.
