Great local ski area
Pros: 360 degrees of skiing on two mountains, terrain variety, side country options, value
Cons: inconsistent snow, vertically challenged, no real terrain park (if that is your thing)
I've been skiing at Bogus since 1984, (season pass since '98). As the other reviews have mentioned, the proximity to Boise is great. On "powder days" my routine is to get to work early, head out in time for the first chair, and be back for any mid-afternoon meetings and to catch up on emails. Although the vertical isn't great, there are some excellent off trail runs that offer 1,000 to 1,500 vertical shots on powder days. There are some super nice long groomers and when the groom them, they can be a real blast.
Another great thing about Bogus is the night skiing. Unlike most areas, they actually have real runs, even advanced runs lighted up for night skiing. The best is on chair 3, which used to be a verrrry slow, cold double, but is now a high-speed quad!
Because the area is actually two mountains with lots of ridges and gullies it is difficult to figure out where everything is. On my website, i have a comprehensive description of the terrain, including downloadable GPS maps and Videos, (http://hi-adventure.com/gps-tracks-videos/bogus-basin/). Here is one of my favorites that showcases the Inspiration run.
