Belleayre Mountain Reviews

Great place for skiing (~170acres) and X-country (~9.2km) in NY Catskill Mtns.

Pros: 50 trails (Green 22% -- Blue 58% -- Black 20%), High speed quad lift, good value, Over 1,200' (366m) vertical, usually not overcrowded, 4 lodges

Cons: No night skiing, no ski on/off lodging slopeside, few activities to do if you are not on the slopes, it is a bit far for me to drive 3hrs

Click 2015APR06 for my trip report to Bellearye.   Bellearye is located on NY State Route 28 about 40-45 minutes west off Exit 19 (Kingston) of the New York State Thruway. It is about 1h40m from Albany, NY. 2 hours from city limits of NYC 2h40m from Ithaca, NY. 2h45m from Flemington, NJ. 3 hours from Worcester, MA 3 hours from Freehold Twp, NJ.   It is about 3 hours -- 200mi(320km) -- from my house in central NJ.  This is about my time limit for a day trip of skiing.   Although Bellearye is not as easy to get to as some other resorts, I think this helps the ski area avoid overcrowding of the slopes that occurs at other mountains.    There are...

Catskill Gem

Pros: Uncrowded, great mid-week deals

Cons: older lifts a bit slow

Wife and I spent a great day on the slopes at this NYS owned and operated ski mountain in the Catskills. About 90 minutes from our home in Latham, the mountain provides one of the best mixes of easy terrain that suits my wife with more challenging steeps and bumps for me. The long chair is a high speed ride, the other two on the upper mountain are slow, but at $20 a ticket, the price of patience is remarkably low. One of the things I like best about Belleayre is their grooming policy; on the groomed blacks, and a few of the blues, they leave a side bumped up. One the day we visited, we had light snow in the mid-20’s and the bumps were soft. The mountain had excellent cover and...

Skied there today 3/4/10

Pros: Empty on weekdays, nice terrain

Cons: short runs

Skied there almost a week after the big dump and it seemed like there were plenty of stashes in the trees. I'm still getting my form back so I concentrated on groomers, but had a great time. It's my new home hill! I liked a lot of the runs. The blues were nice, it was fun to cut through some trees, I only skied 4 of the blacks.

Best place near NYC for families

Pros: great variety of trails, great kid training, great value

Cons: may be crowded on weekends, slow lifts

Belleayre is the best place within 3 hours driving from the New York City. It has perfect beginner terrain, trails are wide and smooth, great place to learn. Intermediates can choose from quite easy and nice cruisers or from more advanced slopes. Black diamonds here are more challenging than double diamonds at neighbor mountains. The Belleayre also has numerous double diamonds, which are as steep as their single diamonds but have moguls in addition. There are few glades too. Another attractive part here is the price. This is not only the best terrain in the Catskills, but also the least expensive place. They also suggest a lot of discounts during the whole season... Yet another wonderful...
