Avoriaz Reviews

Doyley

A great resort part of the huge Porte du Soleil region.

Pros: Huge ski area, great snow record, lots of off piste, great apres ski

Cons: Sometimes get rain in the village!

I live in the linked resort Morzine and both ski and board in Avoriaz all the time. It's a truly epic ski terrain with 100's of km's of pisted slopes across Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, Chatel et al and an equivalent amount of off piste. Nightlife (unusually for French ski resorts) is awsome with the full range from grunge bars, upmarket wine bars, family friendly and also Michelin starred restaurants. Boarders are well catered for with a range of terrain parks and half-pipes. Try it.

Pros: Huge area and a central location, Great trail runs, nice park (if unconventional) and good, stable conditions

Cons: Not very pretty resort(not too bad), some runs are low for late season

A nice resort with lots of intermediate skiing in varied reds, and a large, decently connected pass area. The conditions are usually good and reliable, and a large snow park through trees gives amateurs a shot to try some treeskiing and basic park stuff. The park's format is good and it has a nice woodland theme, however it lacks the big jumps that more advanced showoff doucheba riders crave (there is a halfpipe elsewhere however, and other parks in the lift area). Somewhat lacking in hard offpiste, but otherwise probably the best location in the Port du Soleil region (certainly better situated than nearby Morzine, no offense Doyley).
