Arc'teryx Sidewinder AR

Pros: Total barrier to all elements, very durable, lightweight, breathable

Cons: none

Phenomenal jacket.  I have the hoodless version, and it has 3-layer Gore-Tex XCR instead of the current models with Gore-Tex Pro.  I've had it for about 7-8 years, but it still looks/feels practically brand new.  Literally nothing as far as wind, snow, rain, etc gets through this jacket.  Breathes great as well, and has large pit vents for extra cooling if needed.  Fantastic with a couple layers underneath.  Definitely a bit pricey, but easily worth the money in the long run.  I've also recently been using the clear radio pocket on the arm for my phone/mp3 player, which has worked great (I can actually control everything with my gloves through the jacket).  Very highly recommended shell.

Pros: wind and water-proof, light, breathable, well designed

Cons: cost

This is the perfect alpine sports shell.  Every detail is well designed and constructed and of the highest quality.

Here are a few of the things I like about it:

There is extra room in the shoulders and upper back so that you can move your arms without resistance but the waist is not baggy.

The color is visible in clouds and snow.

The fabric is totally wind-proof and water-proof, yet still breathable.

It is extremely light.

There are no liners to trap moisture.

The zippers are all water- and wind-proof.

The powder skirt fits tight and grips well.

The hood fits over a helmet.

It has plenty of pockets.

The side vents are easy to zip and unzip with a gloved-hand.

1000The more I use it the more it becomes my fav winter shell, layered up and my head is an XL in a Smith, so the hood is roomy even with the brainbucket. Skied -5 at Copper on the 9th with 3-layers and my WIndstopper Tech and was toasty. Top of Skipper on Dec 10th, 2012.
