Cutting edge big mountain ski that won a lot of minds (and hearts) at the Start Haus

Pros: Extremely versatile for a wide, fully-rockered ski, holds an edge, rips variable conditions, and great in soft snow.

Cons: Not cheep, but that's not the point.

The Volkl V-Werks Katana is a showcase of the latest and greatest technology from Volkl - a pull-out-all-the-stops kind of a ski. The radical carbon fiber construction makes for a really light ski that's not a noodle, digging in to the groomers surprisingly well, busting through crud, and of course, at its width with full rocker, a blast in powder. A serious contender for a soft-snow loving backcountry ski as well. Many of our testers, who tend to prefer a ski with some camber, were all surprised by how well this ski did everything.
