2014 Rossignol FKS 140 L Binding

Posted

Pros: Lighter than it's big brother the FKS180

Cons: Still a bit more $$ than other 14 DIN bindings, but worth it.

Review:

The FKS 140 is one of the most popular binding amongst freeriders and park skier for many reasons. The dual action toe has a tremendous amount of elasticity (45mm) and the design incorporates 180* of release from the toe. The wide AFD allows a solid platform between the boot and the ski. It is the FKS style heel that differentiates the FKS from traditional binding designs. The FKS with it's 3 point contact gives a solid interface from the boot to the ski but for me it is the short mount distance that makes the FKS design one of the best feeling bindings on the market. The short mount distance allows the ski to flex naturally under the boot, the design also lowers the swing weight of the binding allowing even the all metal design of the FKS to feel and ski lighter without sacrifice of performance and on snow feel.

When you are spending more for a binding, you aren't necessarily buying a bigger/stronger spring but a better housing. The FKS with it's 6-14 DIN range offers their light weight dual action toe design and the turntable heel with 25 plus mm of travel. The FKS 14 is a great choice for the majority of skiers that want the turntable look and feel without the Nth degree of performance of the higher DIN 180 series.
