Pros: Feel, stability, power strap, performance
Cons: narrow forefoot, hard to take off in cold weather, not very warm, other typical race boot complaints
I got the 2012 boot for a steal on Amazon for 249.99 earlier this season. I was a little nervous about the boot due to the flex index and last width at first, and when I got them I immediately thought I made a mistake due to the pain I felt wearing them around my living room. Prior to this boot, the only other race boot I had worn was an old Rossi Race 3 (the neon yellow one) for the early 2000's. My expectations of a similar feel were dashed immediately but I decided to give them a good evening of hitting gates to see how they felt. I am no where close to being an expert racer but since I am 6 ft. 200 lbs I decided to leave the flex setting at 150 for the night. I felt a little discomfort after getting suited up, but this was expected with new boots. As soon as I clicked in I immediately noticed how much feel I had with the boot. After one run I felt that I could turn my skis just by thinking about it. They are not very forgiving when you dont push them hard but for the most part I felt like I was not overpowered by the boot at all. That night was very cold, so it took close to 20 minutes to get them off in the parking lot afterwards (Word of advice, these are not boots to put on in the parking lot). I skied the rest of the race season with them and absolutely loved them. They are very tight at first but the lace up liners and shell started to break in after about 10 days or so. I would not advise using these for all day free-skiing as they are extremely stiff and quite demanding, but if you get them properly fitted and are used to super stiff boots then I would definitely suggest them. Just like other race boots, your feet stay pretty cold while you have them on. I had 4 days of spring skiing last week, so I decided to work with them and took out one of the flex screws to knock it down to a 140 flex. They felt unreal. The current flex setting is perfect for my skiing and I am extremely happy with my purchase.
