I'm looking for an all mountain ski in the 82-88 range. I'm considering the 2013 Elan Amphibio 88XTi, along with the Blizzard 8.5; and the Blizzard 8.7. What do you think? What length did you ski and what's your weight?
Thanks!
This review is long on enthusiasm but short on detailed comparative analysis. Anyone can say "I love this ski," but the specifics of WHY you love this particular ski among all the very good skis out there are what are going to help others. With that in mind, this review is a good candidate for a re-write with the ski review template in mind: http://www.epicski.com/a/ski-review-template
Swscoo, I think what qcanoe is trying to point out is that though this is a great ski and you really like it, the review doesn't help others decide if it is a great ski for them or if they might like it. The template he points to has the format this site has adopted and it helps draw out the information that others are looking for. This way they can compare the size ski, style of skiing, size of the person and terrain etc against what they need/want. Is it good in the bumps, groomers, steeps etc?
qcanoe isn't critiquing your review, he's only trying to get you to put that enthusiasm on this great ski into a format that others will be able to use. People look to the ski professionals as yourself to get the detailed information they need to pick a ski. Some of us don't get to demo ahead of time and end up picking a ski based on reviews. I recently did that based on reviews, posts, private messages and an email or 5 about the Elan Amphibio 14.
We know the ski is awesome. Tell us why it is and the background stats on you and the terrain.
Thanks,
Ken
I'm also looking for a "one quiver ski" for multiple terrain, and styles of use (AT ski mountaineering west coast volcanoes, Midwest groomers, CO winter resorts, etc...) I have a list of close to 30 skis right now. What L&AirC is saying holds true. The best ski for one may not be the best for another based on weight, power, style, whatever...
I don't know if these Elan Amphibios will work for me, but they may be worth a look. I can say that while the review has my attention, the lack of information has me looking elsewhere as it really doesn't help me. I don't know if I should add this to my list or leave it off.
