2013 Atomic Hawx 90 Boot

100% Positive Reviews

Pros: comfort, fit, responsiveness

I moved to this boot when I seemed to have "outgrown" my Nordica Hotrod 85.  Over the course of several lessons where I finally had a breakthrough in engaging the front of my boot, I developed a new pain in the right medial malleolus that had never been an issue before.  After spending some time with Matt Tripp (Boot Pro shop in Ludlow), he suggested I needed a stiffer boot as my advancing technique was compromising the performance of my old boot.

I tried several boots in the shop, and have a rather wide and short foot (7 EE or EEE).  The Atomic 24.5 was by far the best fit.  I also noticed that the boot flexed much less when I messed around on it in the shop.  I was hesitant to plunge into a new boot, and Matt widened the shell in the Nordica to prevent the pain I had been experiencing.  However, I came to realize that Matt was probably right and decided to buy the new boot.

It was the right call.  I have only used the boots for ~10 days, but I immediately noticed that the skis were more responsive due to less give in the boot and quicker transfer of weight to edge of ski.  I also got the custom orthotics and the Boot Pro guys did a fantastic job.  My skiing has risen probably 1/2 a level over the course of the past 10 days of skiing (from a 7.5 to 8.0 or so).  I'm a very happy skier!  I rated durability high, but of course that's not a real rating given how new they are for me.  Also, mine was the 2012 model, but I could not find an entry here for that year's model.  Other than coloring, I believe there wasn't any change to the boot for 2013.

2013 Atomic Hawx 90 Boot

The innovative i-Flex zones of the Atomic Hawx 90 promote natural forefoot flexibility and maximize balance and ski control. The i-Flex zones work like an additional joint: they provide the forefoot and toes with firm support and flex downward slightly in turns, thereby maintaining the natural position of the toes through every stage of a turn. This makes the skier even more sensitive to feedback from the ski, allowing the ski to be controlled with even less effort. With moderate Flex 90 and ASY Sport liner, the Hawx 90 combines comfort with good power transmission. Four Edge 7000 buckles and a wide strap provide precise support. The Hawx 90 is perfect for more advanced skiers.
