Pros: comfort, fit, responsiveness
I moved to this boot when I seemed to have "outgrown" my Nordica Hotrod 85. Over the course of several lessons where I finally had a breakthrough in engaging the front of my boot, I developed a new pain in the right medial malleolus that had never been an issue before. After spending some time with Matt Tripp (Boot Pro shop in Ludlow), he suggested I needed a stiffer boot as my advancing technique was compromising the performance of my old boot.
I tried several boots in the shop, and have a rather wide and short foot (7 EE or EEE). The Atomic 24.5 was by far the best fit. I also noticed that the boot flexed much less when I messed around on it in the shop. I was hesitant to plunge into a new boot, and Matt widened the shell in the Nordica to prevent the pain I had been experiencing. However, I came to realize that Matt was probably right and decided to buy the new boot.
It was the right call. I have only used the boots for ~10 days, but I immediately noticed that the skis were more responsive due to less give in the boot and quicker transfer of weight to edge of ski. I also got the custom orthotics and the Boot Pro guys did a fantastic job. My skiing has risen probably 1/2 a level over the course of the past 10 days of skiing (from a 7.5 to 8.0 or so). I'm a very happy skier! I rated durability high, but of course that's not a real rating given how new they are for me. Also, mine was the 2012 model, but I could not find an entry here for that year's model. Other than coloring, I believe there wasn't any change to the boot for 2013.
